How can one best convey the feeling of pure, white-knuckle, terror-flecked excitement? For six wildly-ambitious nights, we’re taking ‘Holmes and Watson’ to the infamous Soho Theatre. It’s a venue which has played host to Tim Key, Tim Minchin, Kim Noble, Rich Hall, The Pajama Men, Adam Riches, Jimmy Carr and now, somehow… us.

We’re spreading the six performances over two weeks, to make the whole process last longer (tantric-style), so we’re doing two sets of Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances. The dates? The 12th, 13th, 14th, 19th, 20th and 21st of January. The time? 8pm. The duration? Just a single English hour.  Should you forget any of this, incidentally, all of the above information can also be found etched directly across the very core of my consciousness.

The show is getting tweaked, buffed, polished and tightened with the guidance of our director, the obscenely talented Jessica Ransom. I’ll be performing the show without cruches for the first time since August 15th.

If you’ve seen the show before, not even I have the bare-faced audacity to ask you to come again. But I am fuelled by enough brazen chutzpah and scrotum-shrivelling fear to implore you to tell your friends, relatives, loved ones, work colleagues and organ donees about the show, and usher them towards the bright lights of the Soho. And if you haven’t seen the show? Well, now is truly the time. It’s going to be really, really good.

On DECEMBER 11th, the PAJAMA MEN are coming to the ROFFLE CLUB. This is, of course, HUGELY MASSIVELY EXCITING.

For those at the back who haven’t been paying attention, the Pajama Men are a critically lauded, internationally beloved double act who do travel the world making people laugh on a totally full time basis. It is, in fairness, not difficult to see why we admire them (also, by chance, they first rose to prominence in this country by doing a dynamite run at the Soho Theatre, which is WHERE WE’RE PERFORMING IN JANUARY, but that’s another story…).

Back to the Roffle Club – it’s not just the Pajama Men, the whole damn line up is crazy! Observe:

Art and philosophy festivals, that is! Heyooo. No we didn’t know they existed, either. But they do, and they’re awesome. Or, at the very least, the Crunch Festival in Hay on Wye is – and that’s where we were.

Not knowing quite what to expect, we balled up (inasmuch as one can ‘ball’ anywhere in a lime green Ford KA) to an upper middle-class hippie wonderland; a hillside dotted with a series of deeply fabulous marquees, containing performance areas, music stages and, impressively, a full restaurant. Henceforth, if a festival doesn’t contain a bookable seated table area from whence it is possible to order champagne and a cheeseboard (yup), we’ll be wildly disappointed.

Anyhow. Following an amiable hour spent abusing the WiFi in the Green Room tent (yup) and chatting to eminent film director Stephen Frears (he spent the duration of the evening muttering angrily about not being able to smoke inside the tent. At one point there was a brief power cut, and the lights came back on to reveal Frears sheepishly attempting to light up, in the dark. Absolute hero.) we proceeded to our performance tent for a slice of Holmes and Watson.

Somehow, remarkably, we were greeted with this beautiful sight:

Finally, proof that there IS a market for narrative sketch comedy on the English-Welsh border! The Hay-on-Wye masses were supremely receptive, the setting was idyllic, the rest of the Crunch festival was awesome and, perhaps most importantly, the cheeseboard was top-notch. GOOD FRICKIN’ TIMES, PEOPLE.

Well.

That was, clearly, one of the single most extraordinary events we’ve ever been a part of. To absolutely all of the performers – comedians and wrestlers alike – as well as the astonishing tech crew who put the entire event together, you have our undying love and thanks.

It’s taken a few days for the dust to settle on this one, and it currently seems deeply surreal that any of it happened at all. My days are currently shot through with flashbacks to Nick Helm’s astonishing entrance to Enter Sandman at the very start of the show, or Abandoman leading his wrestler to the ring whilst rapping through the crowd (like 8 Mile, only better), or Russell Kane using the power of Jesus to revive his team-mates before being battered by a chair. It’s all t0o ridiculous to have happened, except it did, and it was incredible to be a part of.

So. Again, thank you, everyone. You all excelled yourselves beyond my wildest expectations. Now let’s survive the rest of this ludicrous month, so we can get home and catch the last of the rioting.
