Art and philosophy festivals, that is! Heyooo. No we didn’t know they existed, either. But they do, and they’re awesome. Or, at the very least, the Crunch Festival in Hay on Wye is – and that’s where we were.
Not knowing quite what to expect, we balled up (inasmuch as one can ‘ball’ anywhere in a lime green Ford KA) to an upper middle-class hippie wonderland; a hillside dotted with a series of deeply fabulous marquees, containing performance areas [...]
YES! We’re hitting the beautiful Leicester Square Theatre with ‘Max and Ivan are Holmes and Watson’, for a London triple jump (it’s not quite a ‘run’) of three shows! Book your tickets now, or your children will never love you (and if you don’t have children, other people’s children will irrationally turn on you).

Well. That was, clearly, one of the single most extraordinary events we’ve ever been a part of. To absolutely all of the performers – comedians and wrestlers alike – as well as the astonishing tech crew who put the entire event together, you have our undying love and thanks. It’s taken a few days for the dust to settle on this one, and it currently seems deeply surreal that any of it happened at all. [...]
Good lord! We had a wonderful sunny weekend at the Buxton Fringe a few weeks ago – we performed our Edinburgh show, ‘Max and Ivan Are Holmes and Watson’ to lovely sold-out crowds, and hung out with our phenomenally generous Couch Surfing hostess, Ansty (seriously – we got double beds and a cooked breakfast. A++++, would surf again). Then we came back to angry, smog-filled London and thought nothing more about it.
HOWEVER – the festival has just finished, and it turns out we’ve won their ‘Best Comedy’ award! Magnificent stuff; thank you people of Buxton! It’s a beautifully auspicious boost en route to Edinburgh (which is literally a week away. Good god) – and the best bit is we still haven’t quite finished editing the show. Let’s do this.
